A group of about 10 of us met at 5 pm Tuesday at the Glenelg Jetty, armed with our cameras, both film and digital, and a couple of filters. Reg was looking to get low-angled light shots for the upcoming set subject competition, I wanted to get some shots for a mock tourist brochure I'm doing for a TAFE assignment.
There was no wind, and it was a lovely mild evening. As the sun got lower in the sky, the buildings on the foreshore glowed in the golden light. The sea glimmered. There was a large bank of clouds near the horizon which then temporarily dulled the light as the sun went down behind them. A few minutes later the same clouds turned red, giving everyone a lovely sunset to photograph. The people walking along the jetty, a couple of guys paddling on their surf boards, the odd boat sailing past presented lots of photogenic opportunities. The seagulls weren't as cooperative, though.
A highlight (although it was too dark by that time for me to photograph) was seeing a dolphin swim so close to the shore that you could just about wade out to touch it.
